抗生物質が効かなくなった細菌に対して、抗生物質ではなくウイルスで対抗する発想そのものは科学的に評価されている。糖尿病の骨の感染症(DFO)を狙った第2相試験では、統計的に意味のある創傷治癒の改善を確認できた。
承認された製品はひとつもなく、製品売上はゼロのまま。糖尿病患者の足の感染症を狙うBX011を第2a相へ進める計画と、骨の感染症に向けたBX211が手元に残る開発品で、どちらも資金が続けばという条件つきで動く。
2025年8月にFDAが嚢胞性線維症向けの試験に一時停止をかけ、同年12月に開発を打ち切った。同じ月、事業の中核を担っていたイスラエルの子会社が現地で破産手続きに入り、開発体制そのものが大きく縮小した。
創業科学者のひとりで、ワイツマン科学研究所のファージゲノム研究の専門家であるロテム・ソレック教授の技術を土台に据える。ただし2025年末の危機以降は、大株主となりうる投資家の意向次第で戦略が変わりうる状態にある。
